Website Grader is a free tool offered by HubSpot gives a very comprehensive assessment of your site including a proprietary score. While the score doesn’t have any empirical meaning, it’s useful when comparing your online presence to your competitors’ so you can see how you compare relative to one another.
Website Grader provides detail on the following metrics:
- Number of Indexed Pages
- Readability Level
- SEO Opportunities
- MozRank
- Number of Linking Domains
- Traffic Rank
If there are any obvious improvements that can be made to your online presence, Website Grader will help identify them and provide a general course of action. Unless you know what specific actions to take yourself, you may want to consult with an online marketing consultant to devise a plan of attack.
MajesticSEO
Currently, MajesticSEO is the best source of backlink data that’s available online. By creating a free account, you can lookup backlink information to see how many links from external websites are pointing to your own. You can also compare number of links to your website versus your competitors’s websites.
While Website Grader gives you he Number of Linking Domains, the data from MajesticSEO appears to be more accurate and is more granular. You can use the data from MajesticSEO to identify linking opportunities and to refine how many and what quality backlinks you need to acquire relative to your competition.
Spydermate
Spydermate provides similar metrics as the other two, but what makes it useful is it’s ability to identify keyword phrases for which your site is already ranking. You can create a free account on Spydermate and enter your website’s URL to crawl up to 10 pages to be analyzed.
Once the analysis is complete, a tab called “Keywords” will appear, and this is where you can see any keyword phrases for which your website is already ranking on Google. This is a useful starting point for optimizing your online presence as you can take the phrases where you’re not appearing in position 1 and start a link building campaign around them to help boost your presence on the search engine results pages.
These three free tools will help you gain a solid understanding of your online visibility. You can then use this information to benchmark against specific tactics that you or your chosen vendor uses to increase your overall online visibility.
